Ross School Opens College Guidance Videos to All Students

Thu, 06/04/2020 - 11:14

Common applications. Art school portfolios. The Naviance college-match system. The Ross School administration knows there are so many nuances and questions about the college application process that it decided to open up its counseling program to the students from outside Ross as well.

“We have never done that before,” said Andi O’Hearn, director of advancement and operations at the Ross School, who suggested that the rising juniors and seniors in general may not have easy access to their guidance counselors, who are probably extremely busy, right now.

“We have this information; we put it all together for our own students,” Ms. O’Hearn continued. “They’re on all different topics, and they’re fun. Some are very basic — how to fill out your common application. Kids need that and they can get that done this summer because who knows what school is going to look like in the fall. We hope [the videos] will be useful.”

The videos and additional links are available at ross.org/learning/college-counseling.

The website has had an increase in traffic since the videos were posted publicly, Ms. O’Hearn said. “I think Ross is good for the community, and we can give back. . . . Our motto is ‘Know thyself in order to serve.’ . . . If people can use them, I’m thankful Ross has been able to contribute that.”
