East End Artists
“Casimir Rutkowski and His Circle: Paintings From the East End” opens Thursday at the Slattery Gallery in Southampton and will run through Oct. 19. A reception will happen Saturday from 5 to 8 p.m. The show features over 20 works from the artist’s estate, many of which have not been shown publicly in more than two decades.
Rutkowski (1941-2005) relocated from New York to the East End in the 1970s. His paintings, many of them plein-air oil landscapes, reflect his development of a painterly language rooted in observation yet enriched by gestural brushwork and luminous color, according to the gallery.
The show will also include work by other East End artists: Priscilla Bowden, Nicolai Cikovsky, Robert Dash, Cornelia Foss, Jane Freilicher, Balcomb Greene, Paton Miller, Fairfield Porter, and Ty Stroudsburg.
Art and the Auto
“Everything Ahead of Me,” an exhibition of art and design inspired by the automobile, will open Friday at ARC Fine Art in Amagansett with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Curated by Charles Ruger, a photographer, curator, and collector, it will continue through Oct. 13.
The show aims to highlight how a selection of international artists look to the automobile for inspiration in their work. Whether literal or abstract, the works created through photography, painting, sculpture, and design highlight the car as an object of technological development, function, beauty, and pleasure, according to the gallery.
The exhibiting artists include Slim Aarons, Mohamed Amin, Liz Cohen, Richard Estes, Jonah Freeman, Thom Gilbert, Michael Haber, Matthew Day Jackson, Tom Johnson, Jason Middlebrook, Christopher Myott, Fabian Oefner, Prada, Geoff Reinhard, Bastienne Schmidt, William Silano, Tommaso Spinzi, and Joni Sternbach.
Guild Hall Members Show
Registration is now open for Guild Hall’s 86th annual Artist Members Exhibition. Registration will close Oct. 5, and the exhibition will open Nov. 7. This year’s juror is Marcela Guerrero, the DeMartini Family Curator at the Whitney Museum of American Art. The Top Honors recipient will receive a future solo show at Guild Hall. Honorable mention winners will also be recognized.

Art Barge to Ashawagh
The Mabel and Victor D’Amico Institute of Art, the Art Barge, has announced the return of its “Back to Ashawagh” exhibition to Ashawagh Hall in Springs from Friday through Monday. A reception will take place Friday from 5 to 7:30 p.m.
The tradition dates back to 1955, when the D’Amicos’ summer vacation painting classes held an end-of-season show on the grounds of the hall, a tradition that continues with the support of the Springs Improvement Society. “Back to Ashawagh” will feature work by the Friends of the Art Barge, trustees, instructors, and staff, as well as a selection of works from the 2026 children’s program.
Gallery hours are Friday from 5 to 7, Saturday from 9 to 5, and Sunday and Monday from 11 to 5.
Three at Kramoris
A show of work by Barbara Groot, Adriana Barone, and Patricia Hadley opens Thursday at the Romany Kramoris Gallery in Sag Harbor and will remain on view through Sept. 24. A reception will be held Saturday from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
The light and beauty of the East End have informed Groot’s vibrant, expressive canvases that owe more to abstraction than figuration. Barone’s works reflect a venturesome sensibility, ranging from almost childlike paintings of animals to abstractions and geometric floral compositions. Hadley’s colorful paintings and mixed-media works evoke the sea, boating, and beach life, sometimes incorporating her own photographs, found images, and objects.
