Classical Concert
As in summers past, East Hampton’s LongHouse Reserve will celebrate the birthday of Jack Lenor Larsen, its founder, with a recital by Llewellyn Sanchez-Werner on Saturday starting at 5 p.m. The performance will include music by Samuel Barber, Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, George Gershwin, and Sergei Rachmaninoff.
Sanchez-Werner was named a Gilmore Young Artist and took first prize in the 2022 Concert Artists Guild International Competition. He has performed at the White House and the Kennedy Center for Presidents Obama and Biden, and internationally in the Netherlands, Abu Dhabi, and in Paris and Grenoble, France.
The concert and cocktails will take place from 5 to 7; tickets are $125. Tickets to the concert, cocktails, and dinner by the pool at the neighboring Round House, starting at 7, cost $450.
Broadway in Sag
Tom Kitt, a Tony, Emmy, Grammy, and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, orchestra leader, and pianist, will be joined by Jessica Vosk, a vocalist who has performed on Broadway in “Wicked,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” and “Finding Neverland,” for a concert at Sag Harbor’s Bay Street Theater on Monday at 8 p.m.
As a musical theater composer, Kitt’s Broadway credits include “Next to Normal,” “If/Then,” “Flying Over Sunset,” “High Fidelity,” “Bring It On: The Musical,” and “Almost Famous.” The program affords audiences an opportunity to hear selections from a celebrated body of work performed by the artist who created it. Kitt will lead the evening from the piano, adding stories behind the music and a preview of material from upcoming projects.
Tickets are $79.99 to $129.99. The full-service lobby bar will open at 7.
Anchors Aweigh
Still more music will happen at The Church on Saturday evening at 6 when the Sons of Town Hall return to the Sag Harbor cultural center for an evening of music, storytelling, comedy, and whimsy. David Berkeley, an American songwriter and author, and Ben Parker, a British songwriter and producer, inhabit the characters Josiah Chester Jones and George Ulysses Brown, a pair of 19th-century vagabonds whose performance blends music from the 19th century and today, performed by the adventurers while crossing the Atlantic Ocean on a raft.
Tickets are $40, $30 for members, and $20 for students 18 and under.
Top Film Noir
As part of its Summer Noir series, the Sag Harbor Cinema will show “They Live by Night,” Nicholas Ray’s influential debut film on Monday at 7 p.m. The 1948 romantic crime drama follows a prison escapee (Farley Granger) and an innocent young woman (Cathy O’Donnell) who are on the run from other outlaws and the police.
Sean Price Williams, a cinematographer who calls the film one of his favorites, and Bob Rubin, a curator and writer, will discuss the film after the screening.
‘Red, White, Blues’
Rhonda Denet, a blues singer, and the Silver Fox Songs trio will perform a free concert in honor of this country’s semiquincentennial on Sunday afternoon at 3 at the Montauk Library. Denet’s performance will be intermixed with commentary on the impact of African and Afro-Caribbean instruments and rhythms on American music.
She will be accompanied by Mike Bardash, a pianist and composer, Gene Torres, a bassist, and Chuck Batton, a drummer.
Latin Chamber Music
The Southampton Arts Center, in collaboration with Hamptons JazzFest, will host “A Journey Through Latin America,” a performance by the Toomai String Quintet, on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. The quintet is devoted to exploring musical traditions from around the world through original string arrangements and newly commissioned works. Focused on Latin American chamber music, the group has performed at Carnegie Hall, 92Y, and Lincoln Center.
The ensemble consists of Emilie-Anne Gendron and Alex Fortes on violin, George Meyer on viola, Hamilton Berry on cello, and Andrew Roitstein on bass. Tickets are $30, $25 for members.
Cherry Bombs Twice
The Cherry Bombs, a multigenerational, female-centric East End band, will perform at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett on Saturday at 9 p.m. The show is sold out, but a limited number of tickets might be available at the door.
For those who have lost out, the band will perform a free show at Main Beach in East Hampton Village on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m.
Comedy Club Returns
Dan Madonia, a comedian and actor known for his observational humor and personal stories, is up next in the Sticks and Stones Comedy Club at the Southampton Cultural Center on Saturday evening at 8. Madonia has performed in Los Angeles at the Comedy Store and the Laugh Factory, and at festivals including SXSW and the Great American Comedy Festival.
General admission is $35, reserved seating is $70, and top-tier seats are $100.
