The sound of music at LTV Studios this weekend will swivel from jazz to cabaret, starting Friday at 7:30 p.m. with a performance by the Edmar Castaneda Quartet. Co-presented with Hamptons JazzFest, the show will combine jazz improvisation with the sounds and rhythms of the Colombian harp.
Born in Bogota and based in New York City, Castaneda is known for adapting the Colombian harp to jazz and improvised music. His work combines elements of jazz, Latin American music, and folkloric traditions.
A Latin Grammy nominee, Castaneda has built a formidable career collaborating with such artists as Wynton Marsalis, Bela Fleck, John Scofield, Marcus Miller, Hiromi, Paquito D’Rivera, Gonzalo Rubalcaba, Pedrito Martinez, and Paco de Lucia, among many others.
He is the creator of the EC Llanera Harp, developed in collaboration with Camac Harps, an innovative instrument that reflects his inventive approach to performance and composition. His 2024 work “Bordones” was co-commissioned by the American Composers Orchestra and Carnegie Hall and premiered at Carnegie Hall.
Tickets are $40, $60 for reserved cocktail table seating with a drink ticket, $10 for students.
“Here’s to Life,” a new show by Ann Hampton Callaway, a Tony Award-nominated singer-songwriter, is up next, Saturday evening at 7:30, in LTV Studios’ Hamptons Summer Songbook by the Sea series. The program includes music by Harold Arlen, Cole Porter, Richard Rodgers, and Alan and Marilyn Bergman, as well as contemporary composers and Callaway’s own songs.
Known for her pop and jazz vocals, Callaway is also a pianist, lyricist, arranger, actress, television host, and producer. Broadway World named her entertainer of the year and best jazz vocalist two years in a row, and in 2023 she was inducted into the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame. She has taken home the Theater World Award, several Bistro Awards, the Mabel Mercer Award, and the Johnny Mercer Award for Songwriting.
Callaway was nominated for a Tony Award for best performance by a featured actress in a musical in 2000 for her role in the Broadway show “Swing.” One of that show’s creators, she also contributed original material, writing the song “Two and Four” and providing additional lyrics for other songs in the production.
As for acting, she made her feature film debut opposite Angelina Jolie and Matt Damon in the Robert De Niro film “The Good Shepherd.”
Tickets are $80, $125 for cocktail table seating with a drink, and $240 for cafe table seating, including bottle service.
