After his father’s unexpected death, Adam Tendler, a pianist, received his inheritance in a parking lot, as a wad of cash. To an onlooker it might have looked like a bribe or a drug sale, but for Tendler it was an opportunity. He approached a wide-ranging group of composers and sound artists, commissioning each to respond to the idea of “inheritance.”
The result is “Adam Tendler: Inheritances,” which is coming to Guild Hall on Sunday at 7 p.m.
Woven into a single program, the pieces explore lineage, memory, loss, and place, forming a meditation on confronting the past while moving forward into the future, according to a statement on Tendler’s website. Produced by Liquid Music, the project earned a 2026 Grammy nomination for best classical instrumental solo, was featured on “CBS Sunday Morning,” and named a Critic’s Pick by The New York Times, which said, “You will be moved, profoundly and intensely” and described it as “a display of contemporary compositional force.”
The commissioned artists are Devonté Hynes, Nico Muhly, Laurie Anderson, inti figgis-vizueta, Pamela Z, Ted Hearne, Angélica Negrón, Christopher Cerrone, Marcos Balter, Missy Mazzoli, Darian Donovan Thomas, Sarah Kirkland Snider, Scott Wollschleger, Mary Prescott, Timo Andres, and John Glover.

Also at Guild Hall, The Innovators is a conversation series featuring thinkers who redefine culture, business, and innovation across industries. The series’ second iteration, set for Monday at 6 p.m., will be devoted to “Women Redefining Travel, Hospitality, and Lifestyle.”
Hosted by Malcolm Carfrae of Carfrae Consulting, the panel will feature Sarah Wetenhall, Jayma Cardoso, Deborah Calmeyer, and Dayssi Olarte de Kanavos, who will explore innovative entrepreneurship, hospitality, brand-building, and the impact of women-led businesses on the global luxury landscape.
