Update: B. Smith Found After Being Reported Missing in Sag Harbor
Update, 3:15 p.m.: Sag Harbor Village police confirmed that B. Smith has been located in New York City after she was recognized at a diner. The case is closed.
Originally: Sag Harbor Village police are investigating the reported disappearance of B. Smith, a model, restaurateur, and Sag Harbor resident.
Fox News first reported on Wednesday that Ms. Smith, who is 64 and suffers from Alzheimer's disease, was last seen in Southampton on Tuesday at about 8 p.m. Dan Gasby, her husband, told Fox News that she took the Hampton Jitney from New York City to Sag Harbor and got off in Southampton.
Although Village Police Chief Thomas Fabiano was not immediately available to comment, the department confirmed there is an open, active missing persons case for Barbara Smith. Neighboring departments were informed of her disappearance but had not given much information.
According to Fox News, she was last seen wearing a blue sweater, pink shirt, jeans, and black sneakers.
Ms. Smith revealed earlier this year that she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. She and her husband sold their longtime Sag Harbor restaurant, B. Smith's on the Long Wharf, this year, too. She was one of the first African-American models to appear on the cover of Mademoiselle.
Anyone with information can call Sag Harbor Village police at 631-725-0058, or their local police department.
