Students Onstage
An afternoon of student performances will help mark the opening of Guild Hall’s annual Student Arts Festival on Saturday. This first part of the festival, which will be on view through Feb. 22, features the work of students in kindergarten through eighth grade. Among those set to take the stage on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. will be the Montauk School High Notes chorus, the Montauk dance team, and the Amagansett School Chorus, as well as individual piano, guitar, and voice performers.
On weekends during the festival, Guild Hall will be open for free open studio time for ages 6 to 9 with and without an instructor. Kids can work independently on Saturday and Jan. 31 and Feb. 21 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday and Feb. 1, 14, 15, and 22 from 1 to 5 p.m. An instructor will be on hand to offer guidance on Saturday, Feb. 14, and Feb. 21 from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Materials will be provided.
The exhibition can be seen on Fridays, Saturdays, and Mondays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5, with after-school hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 3:30 to 5.

Return of Yellowgold
Morgan Taylor will return to the Goat on a Boat Puppet Theatre in Sag Harbor on Saturday with his Gustafer Yellowgold multimedia show at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
Part pop-rock concert, part animated picture book, the show features “a friendly yellow fellow who came from the sun.” It will include numbers familiar to fans who have been to previous Gustafer Yellowgold performances at the Goat as well as songs and videos from a new DVD/CD set, “Gustafer Yellowgold’s Wisdom Tooth of Wisdom.”
Tickets cost $12, $10 for members and grandparents, and $8 for additional children or those under 3.
Eww! Cool!
The humble earthworm and oft-overlooked grasshopper play important roles in our ecosystem, and on Saturday at 10 a.m. children 8 and older can learn more about these creatures during a dissection program with Crystal Possehl at the South Fork Natural History Museum in Bridgehampton. After a short presentation, participants will study some specially prepared grasshoppers and earthworms to see how they do what they do.
There is a $10 materials fee for the program, and advance registration is required.
Sushi and Rainbows
Teenagers will turn old holiday cards into gift boxes during a craft program on Saturday from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the East Hampton Library. On Wednesday, sixth through eighth graders can make “sushi” from different candy and snacks during a program from 4 to 5 p.m.
Kids 5 and older will study the density of different liquids and solids and make a “rainbow tower” to illustrate what they learn next Thursday from 4 to 5 p.m. at the library. Advance registration has been requested for all programs.
