Donations Needed For Famine Relief
Students in Montauk and Bridgehampton planning a famine-relief fund-raiser are seeking donations of fabric to create artwork that will be featured at the all-ages benefit, to be held April 29 at the Bridgehampton Community House.
Sheets or other bedding, bolts of material, or old clothes (especially in earth tones) can be dropped off this week and next at donation boxes at the Hayground School on Mitchell Lane or Bridgehampton School on Montauk Highway. Raini Ashare of Montauk, who can be reached at 631-273-2502, is taking donations, too.
Aubrey Roemer, a Montauk artist, will be leading student volunteers in workshops the weekend of April 8 and 9, at which the kids will use the found materials to create the trees, flowers, birds, and flags of four nations (South Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria, and Yemen) where, according to Unicef, the worst humanitarian crisis since World War II is unfolding.
