With a 6-1 win over Greenport, the varsity field hockey team celebrated its six seniors — Lilah Brown, Emma Hand, Carlee Kenny, Sophie Lancashire, Carli Stuckart, and Caitlyn Weimar — at the last home game of the season last Thursday.
Hand dominated the game, scoring a trio of goals — two in the first quarter and the third in the fourth quarter to complete the hat trick. Jolie White, Ashlyn O’Donnell, and Merritt Bistrian-Emptage scored the other three goals.
Before the game, the Bonackers recognized the seniors and their families. Danielle Schuster, the head coach, called them the heart of the team — all two-year varsity players and all captains this season.
Brown, affectionately called Brown Out, was praised for her positive energy and for playing hard every minute of the game. Hand was recognized for always
looking out for the younger players and offering encouraging words to her teammates. Kenny will be remembered for her smile, her support for her teammates, and for being an all-around team player.
Lancashire is known as the team’s silent assassin. Throughout the season, she has appeared quickly and quietly — seemingly out of nowhere — to strip the ball from Bonac’s opponents. Schuster said you never see her coming. Weimar was acknowledged for her grit and love of the game. Her coaches said she attacks with a deep desire to take down the competition and is always pumping up the team. Stuckart was celebrated for being fiercely competitive and locked in, guiding her teammates from the backfield in every game. Her coaches called her a true leader who plays with intensity.
The girls finished their season 3-13. Their other two wins came against Babylon, 5-0 away on Sept. 8, and West Babylon, 2-0 at home on Sept. 16.
