‘Inconsistencies in Font, Texture’ the Clue

Thu, 10/01/2026 - 10:16

Forged documents led to the arrest of a Barnes Landing man last week.

Town police allege that Ever Leonel Cevallos Rodriguez, 36, produced a forged Permanent Resident identification card (known as a green card) and a forged Social Security card when they pulled him over for a traffic violation on Floyd Street in East Hampton on Sept. 21.

According to reports, police were able to identity both cards as fraudulent due to “inconsistencies in font, texture, and coloration” in each.

Mr. Cevallos Rodriguez was charged with two counts of second-degree possession of a forged instrument, a felony. He was released on his own recognizance by Justice Steven Tekulsky the following morning.

On North Main Street the night before, Juan P. Villa-Guichay, 43, of Springs, was hit with a felony drug charge following a traffic stop. After ordering him to step out of the car, officers reported spotting two clear plastic bags on the driver’s seat. One contained a pink powdery substance; the other, a blue powder. Police said both tested positive for cocaine.

Mr. Villa-Guichay was charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance in the fifth degree, a felony. He also faces a misdemeanor charge of driving without an Interlock device, often required by courts following a conviction for drunken driving. Additionally, police ticketed the man for aggravated unlicensed driving, a misdemeanor.

Justice Tekulsky released him on his own recognizance the following day, with a future date to return to court.
