A Deer Collision in Montauk

James Sherry of Sag Harbor, 26, was riding a motorcycle on Route 27 near East Lake Drive in Montauk on the evening of Feb. 26 when, he told East Hampton Town police, a deer ran out into the road.

The deer hit the handlebars on the left side, he said, and he fell off the motorcycle and into the road. Police responded to the accident at 6:17 p.m.

Mr. Sherry sustained an injury to his forearm but remained conscious. He was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. His motorcycle was damaged, from the handlebars to the back wheel.

Police officers from East Hampton Town and Sag Harbor Village joined forces on Monday to collar a grand larceny suspect just days after he allegedly stole from a shop in Sag Harbor.
