Felony D.W.I. Is Charged

Thu, 12/12/2024 - 10:56

A single-car accident on Three Mile Harbor Road in Springs, in which a driver struck mailboxes and shrubs by the side of the road, led to an arrest on a charge of felony drunken driving on the night of Nov. 30.

Richard Pims of East Hampton, 52, was northbound in a 2023 Nissan near Lincoln Avenue when the accident occurred. The car’s engine was running, town police reported, and it had extensive front-end damage.

Mr. Pims had an odor of alcohol on his breath and was unsteady on his feet, according to the report, which also noted that his speech was slurred and his eyes were bloodshot. He consented to field sobriety testing and allegedly failed.

After a criminal history search, police found a 2015 conviction in Bronx County for driving while intoxicated.

At his arraignment the next day, Town Justice David Filer released Mr. Pims on his own recognizance, pursuant to New York bail laws. He will return to Justice Court at a later date.
