For Your Moment of Zen

Priya Kapoor Lasky started her business, Own Retreat, based on a simple question: If you desire peace in your life, why not create a dedicated space in which to seek it? She is referring to Zen, meaning a sense of calm, quiet focus, often derived from Buddhism and other philosophies in Asian and South Asian cultures.

With that in mind, Ms. Lasky helps people add some Zen to their homes for the purpose of meditation, prayer, or other form of quiet reflection. It can serve just as important a purpose, she says, as a chef's kitchen, home office, or personal gym.

The goal is to sit and not think about anything. "In the workplace or at home, a Zen or meditation area will be your space to encourage peace, serenity, and focus," she writes. "The Zen room will keep you away from screens, phones, and other distractions. This can be your space to exhale and be positive."

Whether a person is an East End homeowner with space to spare, or a tenant wishing to create a little corner for respite and relaxation, Ms. Lasky's expertise will no doubt appeal to audiences here. She can be contacted by email at [email protected] or by phone at 917-310-8742.
