Carnival in Sag Harbor
The Sag Harbor Fire Department’s annual carnival at Havens Beach continues until Saturday evening. Gates open at 5 and close at 10. Friday night will feature a fireworks display over the beach.
Sand Castle Contest
The Clamshell Foundation will host its 35th annual sand castle contest on Saturday at Atlantic Avenue Beach in Amagansett, with registration starting at 10 a.m. at the tent on the beach and final judging at 3 p.m. All ages and abilities will be welcomed. Only materials found on the beach may be used, and power tools are not allowed.
The registration fee is $20 per group, with groups limited to six people. Payment is by cash, check, credit card, or Venmo.
Whale, Ho!
The Whalemobile, described as “a life-sized inflatable whale experience,” will swim to the Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse in Bridgehampton on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. courtesy of the Sag Harbor Whaling and Historical Museum. The large installation offers a chance to “step inside the whale to explore its anatomy, learn about conservation, and discover how whales -- and the ocean -- are connected to our daily lives, no matter where we live,” according to an announcement.
There will also be whale artifacts and a chance to learn about how whales live and how scientists study them. Tickets for a half-hour session with the whale cost $25 and can be booked through the museum’s website.
Bilingual Fun
Sonia De Los Santos will bring storytelling and music influenced by Latin American rhythms and North American folk to Guild Hall’s next KidFest program on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m. Ms. De Los Santos, once a member of the Grammy-winning group Dan Zanes and Friends, was born in Monterrey, Mexico, and lives in New York, where she delivers “vibrant, bilingual performances that get audiences singing, clapping, and dancing along,” her promotional material says.
An arts and crafts workshop with the Children’s Museum of the East End will precede the show. Tickets cost $35 on the Guild Hall website.
Raptor Day
Tuesday will be Raptor Day at the South Fork Natural History Museum in Bridgehampton, where Evelyn Alexander Wildlife Rescue Center representatives will introduce some of the rehabilitated owls in the center’s collection to kids starting at noon. There will be a chance to learn about owls and an owl story time. The cost is $15 for adults and $10 for children, including admission to the museum. Members get in free.
“Coco” on Screen
HamptonsFilm will show Pixar’s 2017 animated hit “Coco” on an outdoor screen in Herrick Park on Wednesday around 8:15 in partnership with Organizacion Latino Americana. The film follows a young boy who dreams of becoming a musician despite his family’s ban on music and his journey into the Land of the Dead, where the story behind their disapproval becomes clear.
There is no charge to attend the screening, but registering in advance at hamptonsfilmfest.org means a notification will be emailed if plans change. The rain date is next Thursday.
