East Hampton Town’s junior lifeguard program will begin this weekend at Atlantic Avenue Beach in Amagansett and Kirk Park in Montauk. The program trains young people ages 9 to 15 in all the basics of ocean safety and teaches them the skills necessary to go on to become lifeguards. It will run every Saturday and Sunday from 9 to 11 a.m. through the end of July, culminating in a tournament at Atlantic Avenue on Aug. 2 and 3.

To be eligible, participants must have already completed training, evaluation, and testing at the Y.M.C.A. East Hampton RECenter this spring. The cost is $90 for the full program; registration is at bit.ly/3XsQ9U5.

A Nipper Guard program for ages 6 to 8 will start on June 30 at East Lake Beach in Montauk and on July 1 at Albert’s Landing in Amagansett. The Montauk program is on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 to 10:30 a.m.; the Amagansett one meets Mondays and Wednesdays at the same hours. Both continue through the end of July and cost $60. Training and testing at the Y is also required for this one — the final day for that is this Sunday from 1:45 to 2:30 p.m.
