Tempers flare and face-slapping breaks out when East Enders’ conversation turns to egg sandwiches. We are committing a social crime tantamount to treason by suggesting what we’re about to suggest, but here we go.

Sorry, egg sandwich. You heard it here: the Morning Taco from Carissa's Bakery beats all.

The old-school Long Island egg sandwich — bacon, egg, and cheese on a hard (a.k.a. kaiser) roll, served fast and cheap at the deli? We love it. It’s a magnificent culinary tradition here in Bonac. But this fancy breakfast taco from the Pantigo Road headquarters of Carissa’s Bakery, in East Hampton? It’s so delicious we not only could eat it every day, we could wash our hair with it, give it our favorite sweater, and marry it. Served on a pair of blue or white heirloom-corn tortillas from Sobre Masa, topped with pozole, poblano pepper, and radishes, and finished off with a hunk of fresh lime and a drizzle of salsa matcha, these eggs are priced at $14 for two, and they’re worth it.

As year-round working stiffs, we here at East have tried every variety of egg sandwich (egg wrap, egg bagel, egg-avo toast, egg-a-muffin, et cetera) from the snack bar at Montauk Light to the last gas station before the Shinnecock Canal, and we’re sure about this. Please don’t throw a brick through our office windows. Just try the tacos.— East
