The Right Person

To the Editor,

As a life-long Democrat, I'm thrilled that Judge Lisa Rana is seeking the Democratic line for town Justice. The Democratic voters deserve to have a choice for whom will represent them on their line. Based on her 16 years of experience on the bench and her varied professional background, I believe her experience is more particularly aligned with our Democratic ideals than her opponent's.

I also think that, particularly in local elections, voting for the right person is essential, regardless of party affiliation. I've known Lisa for many years. She has been devoted to this community and is very familiar with local issues. Lisa is a Judge for everyone and has earned respect and admiration from all. She leads with integrity, she is fair and impartial, and she is committed to following the law and finding justice in every situation. May I add her reputation on the bench and her judicial demeanor is impeccable.

In light of the above, I hope you will join me in voting for Judge Rana on June 25th, the Democratic Primary election.

      Sincerely,

      NANCY DEPIETRO

Dear Editor,

What is going on with local elections lately? Without being in the middle of things it is hard to know what has happened or whom to believe. Let me tell you a little about my experience.

I had been a member of the East Hampton Democratic Committee for almost 10 years. For part of that time I was the secretary and I would attend the executive committee meetings as well as the full committee meetings to record the minutes.

New to the interior workings of politics at the time, I didn't quite realize that the executive committee meetings were the back-room where decisions are made. This is where they decided whom they would appoint to town planning and zoning boards, whom they would want to run for the town Justice, town board, Supervisor, and how they would manipulate the rest of the East Hampton Democratic Committee to believe in their choices. Many times, these candidate choices had already been vetted and decided upon by campaign manager Chris Kelley along with a very small, close-knit group of party leaders.

When we seasoned Democrats voiced concerns over the misguided direction of the Democratic party, we were told to leave.hence the East Hampton Reform Democrats were born. Combine this with questionable behavior from the Democrats on the town board, such as land give-aways, an anonymous undisclosed $300,000.00 donation, back room arrangements with a billionaire to wave zoning laws and other poor aesthetic and legal judgments. concerns that were raised from both Democrats and Republicans alike. This is why voting straight down any party line may not give you what you think you are getting!

This letter is to encourage every Democrat to vote in the primary for the candidates who are honest, will encourage transparency, and will be best at protecting the place we love regardless of party line. Having been in the thick of things for so many years, and knowing all of the candidates myself, the best choice for town Justice is Lisa Rana with her 16 years of judicial experience and dedication. The best trustee candidates are independent thinkers, free from the grip of the "do as I say" Democratic committee: Dell Cullum, Richard Drew, Rona Klopman, and Stephen Lester. Please vote responsibly!

      Sincerely,

      JAMES MACMILLAN

Your Right

      East Hampton

Dear David,

I often refer to U.S. Speaker of the House Tip O'Neill's famous quote that "all politics is local." Whom we choose to represent us in our local government has a direct impact on our lives, our livelihoods, and our community.

During the campaign for the upcoming Democratic primary election, our community has expressed its frustration with the pervasive divisiveness of government. There will always be individuals in all parties who will only vote the party line -- regardless of the candidates. However, most people I talk to choose the person, not the party.

I am seeking the Democratic ballot line because I believe that all Democrats of our community should have a choice as to who will represent them on their party line for town Justice and not be required to adopt as their candidate someone chosen by a select few on a small committee.

Your right to choose independent judges has been secured by our State legislature. It has recognized in law the importance of the independence of our judiciary by allowing judicial candidates -- and only judicial candidates -- to seek all party lines without prior approval from local party committees. Having gathered 574 Democratic signatures on nominating petitions, I am able to provide our local Democrats a choice.

I have been elected by the community of East Hampton to serve as your town Justice for the past 16 years and have been previously endorsed by the Democratic, Republican, Independence, and Conservative parties. I take pride in this, as the position of town Justice, like all judgeships, should not be a partisan political one. The fact that members from all political persuasions have chosen me to represent them on our local bench is a testament to our community's independent thinking and its support of an independent judiciary.

Our community has had 16 years to observe my demeanor, commitment, and fairness to all those who appear before me in the East Hampton justice court. I endeavor to treat all individuals with dignity and respect and have tried my best to serve our community honorably. I am asking our Democratic voters for their vote once again on June 25th so that I can continue to represent your values and ideals from our local bench.

      Respectfully Submitted,

      LISA R. RANA

Candidate of East Hampton town Justice

Dear David,

I have known Lisa Rana since we were kids. One thing I have never thought of Lisa as is a Republican, Democrat or Independent. She is just Lisa. A woman of incredible integrity. She has become one of the best justices of the peace that East Hampton has ever had. I would ask the community to please keep Lisa Rana in office. This Strong votes Rana!

Dear David,

I am a devout Democrat, politically devout. I believe that two of the main tenets of the Democratic Party are inclusivity and responsible brotherhood. Yes, we are our brothers' keepers.

Lisa Rana has shown her support and respect for these ideals all the years she has been an East Hampton town Justice. She is true to them in her approach, her judgement and in her fair and honest treatment of all who come before her bench. She is my choice to continue her fine work.

      Sincerely,

      LIBBY ESPOSITO

Dares to Challenge

      Amagansett

      June 13, 2019

Dear David,

Isn't it interesting that the Democratic committee is so outraged that Justice Lisa Rana dares to challenge her opponent in a primary for the Democratic line? What the Democratic Committee is truly upset about is that judge Rana is actually giving the Democratic voters a choice -- a choice as to who is the better candidate to represent their party, their values, and their ideals on the ballot. If the Democratic Committee were to have it their way, we, as Democratic voters, would only have the person they selected for us as our candidate ╨ regardless of his lack of qualifications.

When you compare judge Rana to the hand-picked candidate of the Democratic bosses, judge Rana is more qualified and possesses the characteristics we Democrats want to see in our candidates: compassion, integrity, commitment, experience and a proven record of treating those who appear before her with dignity and respect.

And their hysteria on the letters page about the color of her signs, "blue!" which is the same color she has used since her first election in 2003, has brought the Democratic Committee to a new low. Do they realize how ridiculous they are? Do they think they own the color blue?

Thankfully, on June 25th, we do have a choice -- and a clear one. Join me in voting for Judge Rana to be our candidate for town justice. She exemplifies the values of our party.

      Sincerely,

      JILL DANIS

Experience

     June 16, 2019

Dear David,

This is the 5th election that I have supported Judge Lisa Rana for East Hampton Town justice. Judge Rana’s judicial demeanor, reputation of fairness, and 16 years judicial experience have proven that she is the right choice once again. In fact, in the last election, she was also endorsed by the East Hampton Democratic Committee. There is no reason that she should not be re-elected to the local bench. I urge all Democratic voters to vote for Judge Rana on June 25th, the Democratic Primary. Vote for Experience. Vote for Integrity. Vote for the right person for the job.
