The fifth-and-sixth-grade girls on the East End Lacrosse team went undefeated this spring, finishing 9-0 after wrapping up the season at the Suffolk County Girls Lacrosse Jamboree at Bellport High School over the May 17 and 18 weekend.
The players, who attend schools from Montauk to Southampton, had Neil Falkenhan — a runner and triathlete who is often at the front of the pack in races here — as their head coach. Assisting him were Kristin MacPherson and Jessica Zay. The team has been playing together for three years, practicing twice a week year round, and many of its older players have gone on to play for their middle school teams in seventh grade.
This year “was one of the first years that the program’s players have begun to matriculate into the local schools’ teams and the results were definitely seen,” wrote Mary Waserstein, whose daughter Gogo is on the fifth-and-sixth-grade team.
Also playing this spring were the coaches’ daughters, Zoey Falkenhan, Ruby MacPherson, and Maeve Zay. They were joined by Lydia Agnello, Reese Brantuk, Avery Briand, Samantha Duda, Siena Ezeir, Sadie Finelli, Mackenzie Gregor, Jezebel-Grace Grinnell, Brigid Hall, Eloise Hansen, Nina McLean, Stella Miller, Teagan Mott, Sophia Palacios, Frances Patton, Caroline Popadick, Ellie Powers, Fallon Reilly, Vera Ryan, and Francesca Speranza.
