East Hampton

Over $700 worth of power tools disappeared from the bed of a pickup truck parked on Route 114 while its owner took his bike for a ride on a Northwest Woods trail. He reported the theft on Oct. 13.

An Uber driver lost his temper on Friday afternoon after delivering food to an East Hampton woman who reportedly had some “technical difficulties” with the food-delivery app. According to reports, the driver repeatedly honked his horn, yelled at the woman over the phone, and called her back several times after making the delivery.

Police warned two men parked off North Main Street on Oct. 14 that drinking in a vehicle is illegal, though no alcohol was seen in the car. Officers said the men left the area on foot.

East Hampton Village

A Riverhead man was arrested on Oct. 12 after a scuffle with police, during which he allegedly tried to punch an officer. Police said he appeared to be trying to hide something in his mouth after they pulled him over on Woods Lane; that he “began thrashing in an attempt to flee” when one officer took hold of his arm, and then tried to punch the other one, and that he continued fighting with them after they brought him down to the ground. They reported finding a bag containing cocaine in his car. He was taken by ambulance to Stony Brook’s East Hampton emergency complex, where he was tested for drugs and released the next day; he then  turned himself in to police. He was charged with driving while impaired by drugs, resisting arrest, and obstruction of government administration, all misdemeanors; as well as numerous traffic violations, reckless driving, and harassment.

A Montauk driver reached speeds of nearly 100 miles per hour on Montauk Highway on Oct. 12 while allegedly trying to evade police, who  clocked him near Georgica Road at 55 m.p.h. When they tried to pull him over, he sped up to 95 m.p.h., they reported. He was eventually stopped in Wainscott and found to be driving without a license. He was charged with that as well as unlawful fleeing from a police officer, a misdemeanor.

Two days later, again on the highway, someone reported a reckless driver in a delivery van. Police stopped the van, whose driver, a Lindenhurst man, told them he was “bored and trying to have fun while driving.” He was warned to drive normally.

Someone used a local man’s identity and credit card to buy a cellphone that was shipped to Louisville, Ky., the man told police on Friday. In total, over $1,400 was unlawfully charged to his account.

Police found a construction fence with a large hole in it on Stratton Square Friday and secured it.

Montauk

A highly intoxicated man who’d been kicked out of the Point Bar & Grill early Saturday morning caught the attention of police as he was trying to get back in. He claimed to be trying to return to his apartment across the street at the Memory Motel, which he eventually did.

A bicyclist called police from an Edgemere Street location on Oct. 13, but they arrived to find a car waiting there instead. The driver told them the cyclist had accused him of cutting her off while turning into the Montauk Playhouse parking lot, but she’d left the scene before police arrived.

A broken pool filter was blamed for the large amount of water that collected Oct. 14 on a Grant Drive driveway.

Sag Harbor

Police confiscated a “Resident Parking Only” sign Saturday morning after finding it on public property along Jermain Avenue.

After being warned not to return to any of the businesses at 1A Bay Street on Oct. 7, an East Hampton man was charged with trespassing on the property. He told police he’d returned “to speak with the owner.”

On the night of Oct. 12, police found a young boy riding an e-bike on Main Street in the dark and took him home, warning him not to ride after sunset.

An Amity Street woman found a raccoon was in her trash can on the night of Oct. 13 and called police, who were able to remove it safely.

He was buying a newspaper last Thursday, a man told police, when someone came up behind him and “grab[bed] his pectoral area and nuzzled his ear.” He wanted the incident on record.

Springs

No one was injured, but a woman was shaken up, she told police, after a truck swerved toward her on Oct. 14 while she was walking on Underwood Drive. She said she did not believe it was intentional.
