Police: Lock Your Cars!

In response to a rash of car thefts and break-ins, the East Hampton Town Police Department issued a statement Wednesday imploring people to remove their key fobs and other valuable items from their cars and lock them overnight.

Houses should also be locked and residents should be on the lookout for suspicious activity overnight, the department said in a Facebook post: “Please take some basic steps to help us protect your property.”

The Golden Eagle, an art supply store and East Hampton institution that first opened in 1954, will close next month. It’s a familiar story, as told most recently by Nancy Rowan and Michael Weisman, the Golden Eagle’s owners: The internet has decimated brick-and-mortar retailers across the country.
