Fleming Earns Town Endorsements

East Hampton Town Councilwomen Sylvia Overby and Kathee Burke-Gonzalez, and former Supervisor Larry Cantwell, have endorsed the campaign of Suffolk County Legislator Bridget Fleming, who is seeking the Democratic Party’s nomination to challenge Representative Lee Zeldin in New York’s First Congressional District.

Kathee Burke-Gonzalez and Sylvia Overby are champions for East Hampton who I’ve been honored to work with as their county legislator,” Ms. Fleming said in a statement on Monday. “And former Supervisor Cantwell served our constituents honorably during his time in office. I’m thrilled to have them join our growing team as we fight to take on Lee Zeldin this fall. For too long, our residents have been without a voice in Washington, and I’m honored that they believe I’m the candidate who can change that.”

Supervisor Peter Van Scoyoc endorsed Ms. Fleming’s campaign earlier, as have Shelter Island Supervisor Gerard Siller, Representative Kathleen Rice, Assemblyman Fred W. Thiele Jr., the Legislature’s Presiding Officer Rob Calarco, Legislators Al Krupski, Tom Donnelly, William Spencer, and Sam Gonzalez, former Presiding Officer DuWayne Gregory, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 25, which represents 2,000 electricians on Long Island.

Transportation Union for Zeldin

The SMART Transportation Division of the Long Island Rail Road has announced its endorsement of Representative Lee Zeldin for re-election in New York’s First Congressional District.

The Sheet Metal, Air, Rail, and Transportation Union division of the Long Island Rail Road is the largest rail employees union on Long Island, serving more than 3,200 members across the area.

“Congressman Zeldin has a consistent track record of fighting to create jobs, grow our economy, and improve our nation’s infrastructure,” Anthony Simon, SMART’s chairman, said in a statement this week. “Whenever we’ve needed someone to deliver for jobs and labor on Long Island, Lee has always stepped up to the plate. We are appreciative of Congressman Zeldin’s work to pass the nation’s first fully funded long-term highway and transit bill in over a decade and are especially proud of his pro-union record. We know that he will continue to support organized labor, and because of his pro-worker record we support his re-election wholeheartedly.”
