Bridgehampton High School has recognized Hugo Kapon as its 2023 valedictorian and Luna Paucar as its salutatorian.

Hugo and Luna are both scholars; he has taken 15 Advanced Placement and college-level courses, and she 12. They are members of the school’s National Honor Society, robotics team, and student government.

Hugo is a member of the marimba ensemble and baseball team, is a Toshiba ExploraVision competitor, and volunteers at beach cleanups, marathons, and blood drives.

Luna is a member of the cheerleading team, Art Club, and Photography Club, and outside of school she volunteers as a cook for children and the homeless and enjoys performing music at a local senior citizens center.

Hugo said in an announcement that he was excited and proud to be recognized as valedictorian; at times in his school career he faced uncertainty. “However, thanks to the support of the people around me, I was able to persevere,” he said.

He will go on to the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in the fall, majoring in mechanical engineering.

Luna will study nursing at Boston College. Being named salutatorian “feels encouraging,” she said. “It was my way of believing that I could accomplish more if I tried.”
