Test Prep and College Essay Help for High Schoolers

Test Prep at Child Care Center

The Bridgehampton Child Care and Recreational Center is offering SAT preparation classes for high schoolers in July, August, and September. Sessions are limited to 15 students each. The first session begins on Sunday, July 19, from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m., meets for the next five Sundays, and concludes with a Friday night session on Aug. 28 from 6 to 9. It costs $50.

The second session is shorter and costs $25. Its dates are Sept. 13 and 20 from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 25 from 6 to 9 p.m. There are SAT dates on Aug. 29 and Sept. 26. Students must register on their own for those tests.

A separate college essay prep session will be held on Aug. 27 from 10 a.m. to noon at a cost of $10. It is open to rising seniors only. Masks, social distancing, and hand sanitizing will be required. Registration is by emailing [email protected] or by calling 631-537-0616.

College Essay Help at the Library

The East Hampton Library is offering an online college essay preparation program. On July 27 at 6 p.m., Julie Raynor Gross, founder and president of the educational consulting firm Collegiate Gateway, will give an overview of how to write a strong essay. It is free and open to high school students and their families. On Aug. 1, rising high school seniors will have a chance to share their essay drafts with volunteer tutors for one-on-one consultations.

Space is limited, and priority is given to East Hampton Library District residents in Wainscott, East Hampton, and Springs. Others may be put on a waiting list and offered spots as space allows.
