Stay Off the Sod in Springs

Wed, 12/09/2020 - 17:04

A new sod athletic field is about to be installed at the Springs School as part of the school's ongoing construction and renovation project, but the district has a message for its families and community: please stay off the sod.

"It will be dormant when it goes down, and once you get that snap of heat in April or so, it will start to do what they call 'knit,' and bind itself to the ground" and the other sod pieces, Derek Knatz of BBS Architects told the Springs School Board during a meeting on Monday. "It's important that there are no activities on it until months after that knitting process first happens."

On Tuesday, Debra Winter, the district superintendent, said there are fences and surveillance cameras in place to deter trespassers. There will also be signs prohibiting access.

"I would hope there is respect for the field," she said. "This is for the kids."
