Kathy Engel Reads New Poems

Thu, 06/20/2024 - 20:18

"Dear Inheritors" is the title of Kathy Engel's new poetry collection, out earlier this month from Get Fresh Books. She'll read from it on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the meetinghouse of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the South Fork in Bridgehampton.

The book "moves from the intimacy of home and family to community to social movement," according to the jacket copy. "Opening with the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic, looking back to childhood awakenings, the poems work against linear chronology, raising questions of responsibility and culpability, leaning into the spiritual, a world of question."

Ms. Engel, of Sagaponack, an associate arts professor at New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, will be joined by fellow poets including Marta Lucia Vargas, Yesenia Montilla, Blossom Kelley, Lora Rene Tucker, and Ella Engel-Snow. The Rev. Kimberly Quinn Johnson will host.
