It doesn’t have to be that bedside Bible you drag out of the drawer in your hotel room in an effort to fall asleep.

Starting this weekend, and for four other weekends, Bedside Reading Hamptons will be giving away best-selling books at hotels and bed-and-breakfasts across the country and on the South Fork, including the Southampton Inn, the White Fences Inn in Water Mill, the Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton, Baron’s Cove in Sag Harbor, and the Maidstone, the Mill House Inn, and the Baker House in East Hampton. And guests can keep the books when they leave.

A tote bag of six to eight books, with subject matter ranging from mysteries to lifestyle to self-development to business, will be waiting in each room at the establishments above. Among the novels, you might even call them beach reads, are “Love and Ruin” by Paula McLain, “Before I Let You Go” by Kelly Rimmer, “By Invitation Only” by Dorothea Benton Frank, “Lighthouse Beach” by Shelley Noble, “The Lying Game” by Ruth Ware, “The Secret to Southern Charm” by Kristy Woodson Harvey, “How to Walk Away” by Katherine Center, “The Cactus” by Sarah Haywood, and “The Endless Beach” by Jenny Colgan.

The other weekends when books will be placed in rooms are Flag Day in June, the Fourth of July, National Watermelon Day on Aug. 3, and Labor Day.
