Long Races

About 1,000 long-distance competitors showed up for Saturday’s Hamptons Marathon and Half-Marathon in Southampton, and for the MightyMan sprint, Olympic, and half-Ironman triathlons in Montauk Sunday.

Owen Bradley, 40, of Birmingham, Ala., won the marathon in 2 hours, 52 minutes, and 29 seconds, and Erik Reitinger, 36, of Brooklyn won the half in 1:14:47. The women’s winners in those races were Danya Perry, 48, of New York City and Denali Tietjen, 24, of Brooklyn. Barbara Gubbins, 59, of Southampton and her daughter, Megan, 37, of Brooklyn ran in the half-marathon, with Megan finishing 30th in 1:30:45 and her mother finishing 35th in 1:32:40.

The triathlon winners were Kenny Moore in the sprint, Tim Steiskal in the Olympic, a repeat for him, and Matthew Raske in the half. The women’s winners in those races were Suzy Heffernan, Martha Beben, and Gretchen Tuff.

Runway 5k

Sound Aircraft Services, East Hampton Airport’s fixed-base operator, will hold a 5K Run Down the Runway at 8 a.m. Saturday as a benefit for the Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, a neighbor of the airport’s on Daniel’s Hole Road in Wainscott.

“This flat, fast 5K course promises to offer a unique experience for runners of all skill levels,” a release says, adding that “the initial and final portions of the course use the main runway, 10-28.” More information can be had by emailing [email protected] or calling Evan Catarelli at 631-537-2202, extension 1.
