Viola McClancy
Viola McClancy of Amagansett died on Oct. 19 at the Hamptons Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing in Southampton of complications from a fall two months ago.
Mrs. McClancy never wanted to discuss her age. To respect her wishes, her family did not provide her birth date.
A member of the Friends of Guild Hall and the East Hampton Irish-American Club, she was born in Newark, N.J., the daughter of Adam Frydryck and the former Stasia Sarama, and grew up in Maspeth, Queens.
In May 1940, she met George McClancy. The two were married that September. They had been together for 64 years when Mr. McClancy died in 2003.
Mrs. McClancy is survived by two daughters and a son, Barbara McClancy of Amagansett, Susan McClancy of Cold Spring Harbor, and Kevin McClancy of Bayport.
For the last 30 years, she spent winters in Hollywood, Fla., while living on Montauk Highway in Amagansett the rest of the year. Until her youngest child was in high school, she was a stay-at-home mother. Later she worked as a clerk in the Suffolk County court system.
Mrs. McClancy was cremated, and a private service was held. The family has suggested memorial contributions to the Amagansett Ambulance Company, P.O. Box 911, Amagansett 11930.
