Earth Day on Monday brings with it the kickoff weekend for the East Hampton Town Litter Action Committee’s No Fling Spring, and there will be cleanup efforts all over town.

First up, at 9 a.m. Saturday, is a litter pickup with the East Hampton-Sag Harbor Citizens Advisory Committee meeting at the senior citizens center parking lot on Spring-Fireplace Road. The Springs C.A.C. spearheads a cleanup beginning at Ashawagh Hall in that hamlet at 10 a.m.

A few miles away, the Barnes Landing Association takes the lead for a cleanup beginning at 10 that morning at the Barnes Landing Beach parking lot. Concerned Citizens of Montauk’s Great Montauk Cleanup is from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., with supplies available at the nonprofit’s office on South Elmwood Avenue.

Finally, from 1 to 4 p.m. the Peconic Land Trust heads up litter collection on the trails in the Stony Hill area of Amagansett, weather permitting. Reservations for this should be made directly with the land trust at bit.ly/4b1cAHj.

Trash bags will be available for use, but participants have been asked to provide their own gloves and to wear bright clothing. There will be additional cleanups happening through May 18.

Also, the annual Great Montauk Cleanup is Saturday. During this hamlet-wide event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Concerned Citizens of Montauk invites volunteers to its office at 6 South Elmwood Avenue to grab gloves, hand sanitizer, and reusable sacks for picking up litter. A dumpster provided by Mickey's Carting will be on site for people to dispose of the waste they collect. In case of rain, the event will take place Sunday instead.

East Hampton’s Mulford Farm in ‘Digital Tapestry’

Hugh King, the East Hampton Town historian, is more at ease sharing interesting tidbits from, say, the 1829 town trustees minutes than he is with augmented reality or the notion of a digital avatar. But despite himself, he came face to face with both earlier this week at the Mulford Farm, where the East Hampton Historical Society is putting his likeness to work to tell the story of the role the farm’s owner, Col. David Mulford, played in the leadup to the 1776 Battle of Long Island, and of his fate during the region’s subsequent occupation by the British.
