Bobby Van's

2393 Montauk Highway, Bridgehampton, NY 11932
Seven days. Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m.-10:30 p.m. Saturday, 11:30 a.m.-11 p.m. Sunday, until 10 p.m.

The well-known writers who used to hang out at Bobby Van's, Truman Capote, James Jones, and Willie Morris, for example, are long gone, as is the pianist and bon vivant who gave the place its name, but the institution has thrived as a steakhouse chain, with five locations in New York City, two in Washington, D.C., and one at J.F.K. The dining room is light and airy and the facade folds open in summer for people-watching (and vice versa). If you aren't in the mood for one of BV's steaks or a burger with fries and onion rings, you'll find fish and seafood entrees and even lobster mac and cheese on the extensive menu. French toast and pancakes are served on Saturday and Sunday.
