Stephanie Bayless got up from a ledge near the front of the Stephen Talkhouse early on the morning of Aug. 18 to take a photograph of the cigarette machine. When she went back, she told police, her Tiffany purse, containing $270 in cash and two debit cards, was gone.

Montauk

Police were summoned to Liar’s Saloon early Saturday to quell a fight. Kathryn Walker told them she had asked a group to leave the bar because of unruly behavior and the use of profane language. Before leaving, one of them dumped a pitcher of beer on her head.

Nassau Chief Gets Top Job

Steven E. Skrynecki, the chief of the Nassau County Police Department, will be the next chief of the Southampton Town Police Department, while East Hampton Village Police Chief Gerard Larsen, who was one of the final candidates in the search, is staying put.

During a work session last Thursday, Southampton Town Supervisor Jay Schneiderman announced that Chief Skrynecki, a Southampton Town homeowner, had accepted an offer, “which I’m thrilled about,” he said.

Two Hurt In Head-On

Bob Sisk, an East Hampton Town employee driving a town-owned 2004 Ford pickup truck on Springs-Fireplace Road near Queen’s Lane in East Hampton on Monday afternoon, crossed into the oncoming lane and collided head-on with a 2004 Mercedes-Benz driven by Lisa Brown of East Hampton.

Early Morning Brawl

East Hampton Town police were called to quell a disturbance near Liar’s Saloon in Montauk early Sunday but ended up having to subdue a neighboring resident. According to police, Christopher S. Verity, 23, took a fighting stance against four officers, allegedly striking and kicking all four.

Police subdued him and placed him in the back of a patrol car, where he allegedly began kicking and head-butting the right rear door, damaging it. A misdemeanor charge of criminal mischief was added to one of resisting arrest.

Police were called to the Indian Wells Beach parking lot on the morning of Sept. 4, where Steve Dallal of Scarsdale, N.Y., had gone for an hour’s walk, leaving his wallet in the door panel of his unlocked 2006 Mercedes Benz. When he returned at 8:15, the wallet, which held $300 and many credit and debit cards, was gone.

Todd Bennett told police that during the night of Aug. 27, someone entered his garage, opened the two refrigerators there, emptied them of their contents, including eggs, tomatoes, and lobsters, and smashed them on the floor.
