Room for Oysters at Napeague

John (Barley) Dunne, director of the Town of East Hampton’s shellfish hatchery, would like to remind residents that the town’s community oyster garden program is expanding to Napeague Harbor this year and that there is still space for gardeners.

Launched in Three Mile Harbor in 2016, the program allows individuals and families to grow up to 1,000 oysters and keep half of them. The program grew from 15 to 40 plots at Three Mile Harbor in its second year and also expanded to Hog Creek. Last year it expanded again, with 11 growers in Accabonac Harbor.
