As part of a reading initiative at the John M. Marshall Elementary School in East Hampton, the goal was for students to read for one million minutes over the course of the school year. Students met that goal on April 12, and a big celebration was held in the gym.

In September, the school implemented Rock and Read to encourage more reading at home. Students were asked to log their minutes on the school’s website with their parents after they read each night, and they received colored bracelets based on how much they had done. Students exceeded expectations and reached one million minutes early.
