Focus on Nitrogen Water Pollution

Nitrogen water pollution is at the top of the East End environmental agenda lately and will be addressed at 10 a.m. Saturday in a presentation sponsored by the Village Preservation Society of East Hampton. Two Suffolk County Department of Health Services approved contractors will describe how new low-nitrogen septic systems work and show models of the equipment required. The public has been invited to attend to learn about the hardware and the engineering and permitting process for installation.

East Hampton Town now requires low-nitrogen wastewater systems for all new construction or substantial renovations and additions. East Hampton Village has held off for now on passing a similar measure.
