MagicMasters Fund-Raiser

The Harlem MagicMasters are to play the East Hampton “Dream Team,” a squad made up of faculty members and alumni, in a fund-raiser at East Hampton High’s gym Saturday at 7 p.m. The game, to benefit the freshman class, could be a good one, for East Hampton’s lineup is expected to include Marcus Edwards, Jenel Russell, Jerome Russell, Keith Gilliam, Earle Hopson, and Ricky McFarland, among others.

Tickets bought in advance will cost $15, and $10 for students and seniors — $17 and $12 at the door. There will also be a Chinese auction, a 50-50 raffle, and a half-court shootout at halftime.

McGowin Send-Off

Sean Crowley, who recently, in the wake of Jon Tortorella’s resignation, agreed to return as the coach of Pierson High School’s baseball team, plans a send-off gathering for Kyle McGowin, a former Pierson pitcher who is soon to attend the Washington Nationals’ spring training camp, at the high school on Saturday, Jan. 21.

“We’ll have a slide-and-video show and question-and-answers in the auditorium at 3 p.m. that day,” the coach said, “and then Kyle will pitch a live bullpen session with Aaron Schiavoni in the gym.”

“I coached Kyle from Little League on,” said Crowley, who is about to begin his 26th year of coaching, in answer to a question. “I also coached his father!”

Youth Soccer Instruction

The East Hampton Football Club’s Angel Garces is providing 4-through-9-year-olds with free soccer instruction at the Sag Harbor Middle School gym on Sunday mornings through March 5, beginning this week. The 4-through-6-year-olds are to meet from 10:45 to 11:30 a.m., and the 7-through-9-year-olds from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Lifeguarding Course

A conditioning and stillwater lifeguard course is underway at the Y.M.C.A. East Hampton RECenter’s pool on Sunday afternoons, from 2:30 to 4:30, and Tuesday evenings, from 7:30 to 9:15, through mid-March.

“You don’t have to be a good swimmer to take this course,” John Ryan Jr., the program’s director, has said. “We will get you in good swimming shape.”
