$55 Grand Siphoned in Sag Harbor

Sag Harbor Village police are investigating how more than $55,000 was siphoned from accounts belonging to Sag Pizza and LT Burger.

Christine Reina, a bookkeeper at the restaurants, which share the same owners, reported to police on Feb. 27 that several fraudulent charges had been made on the restaurants’ accounts. They appear to have been made to pay off personal credit cards between September 2018 and last month. The total amount taken was $55,069,91, according to police.

Chief Austin J. McGuire said the investigation is ongoing, but police believe it is a case of identity theft in which scammers hacked into the accounts. “We are looking into it with bank security,” he said.
