Family Seeks Help After Crash

The family of an East Hampton man who was badly hurt Sunday morning in a car accident on Route 114 has asked for help from the community to meet his hospital bills, which are expected to be substantial.

Edwin P. Inga Uyaguari, 23, was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital to be treated in its trauma unit. East Hampton Town police said that the driver may have fallen asleep, or possibly lost control trying to avoid a deer. His 2002 Honda Odyssey was impounded and taken to the police garage on Pantigo Road in East Hampton for a safety inspection.

The Honda was headed south near Barcelona Neck Road when it veered across the oncoming lane of traffic, left the road, and crashed into a tree, according to police. A passing motorist alerted police to the crash. There were no passengers in the van, which was totaled, its front end crushed in.

On her Facebook page, Mr. Inga Uyaguari’s sister, Jennifer Inga, beseeched friends and neighbors for help. “He has two broken legs, and also has head trauma. He is now in a state of coma, may need more surgery,” she wrote, adding that his internal organs were severely damaged and his spleen required removal. “Please help my family!” she concluded.

She has set up a GoFundMe page for her brother. It had raised almost $4,000 as of noon yesterday.
