Catherine T. Stavola, who worked at the Montauk Chamber of Commerce for 33 years, died of lung cancer on March 21 at home on Hoppin Avenue in Montauk. Mrs. Stavola, who was 84, had been ill for two months.

Mrs. Stavola was born in the Bronx on July 27, 1930, to Daniel Keohane and the former Mary Sullivan. She grew up and graduated from high school there.

She married John J. Stavola on Sept. 24, 1949, having met her future husband, who served in the Navy, after World War II, her son Daniel Stavola of Montauk said. Mr. and Mrs. Stavola had owned a summer house in Montauk since the 1960s, and moved there full time upon Mr. Stavola’s retirement in 1978. He died in January.

A homemaker, Mrs. Stavola was a member of St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church in Montauk. She also enjoyed painting, her son said.

In addition to Daniel Stavola, Mrs. Stavola is survived by two other sons, John Stavola of Melville and James Stavola of Montauk. Six grandchildren also survive.

A funeral was held on March 24 at St. Therese of Lisieux, the Rev. Thomas Murray officiating. Mrs. Stavola was buried at Most Holy Trinity Cemetery in East Hampton.

Her family has suggested memorial contributions to the Montauk Fire Department, 12 Flamingo Avenue, Montauk 11954.
