Services for Russell Drumm

Services for Russell Drumm, an East Hampton Star columnist and author who died on Saturday at Southampton Hospital, will begin on Wednesday.

Mr. Drumm, 68, who lived in Montauk, wrote for The Star for over three decades, covering commercial and recreational fishing and a range of other subjects. He was also the author of three books and was a founder of the Oceans Institute at the Montauk Lighthouse Museum, which documented surf history and science. He was diagnosed with cancer a year and a half ago.

There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. on Wednesday at Fort Hill Cemetery in Montauk. A reception will follow at East by Northeast restaurant in Montauk.

A memorial gathering will be held at the Star office on Main Street in East Hampton on Thursday from 3 to 7 p.m. A surfers' paddle-out in his memory will take place in the spring.

Memorial contributions have been suggested to the Oceans Institute, in care of the Montauk Lighthouse Museum, 2000 Montauk Highway, Montauk 11954, or the Montauk Fire Department Ambulance Company, 12 Flamingo Avenue, Montauk.
