The Sag Harbor Community Band’s fourth annual performance of Tchaikovsky’s “1812 Overture” will take place on Tuesday at 8 p.m. outdoors at the American Legion building on Bay Street in the village. A highlight is always the firing of muskets by the Third New York Regiment to take the part of the cannon in the score. Members of the regiment will wear Revolutionary War apparel.

The overture was written in 1880 to commemorate both Russia’s defeat of Napoleon and the silver jubilee of the czar. It included Russian hymns and folk songs, “La Marseillaise,” church bells, and cannon. Tuesday’s program will also have marches and other favorites. Admission is free, and the audience has been encouraged to take lawn chairs.
