Drivers Beware: Night Closures on the L.I.E.

If you're hitting the road, be forewarned: Portions of the Long Island Expressway in Brookhaven Town will be closed.

The work between Exit 66, or Sills Road, and Exit 68, the William Floyd Parkway, began on Wednesday night, according to the State Department of Transportation. It will continue Monday through Friday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through the late fall. Two out of the three eastbound and westbound lanes will be closed each night.

The nightly closures are necessary to perform maintenance and rehabilitation work on the L.I.E. bridge over Carmans River at Exit 67 in the Town of Brookhaven, a release said. The work is being done as part of a $10.8 million project to ensure the safety of older bridges on Long Island.

The work is weather dependent.
