South Fork Poetry: ‘East Hampton’

By Joseph Tusiani

Green, ever green, East Hampton,
greener than young García
could ever fathom in his last way out.
I am determined, more than he could then,
to drink all that you are,
making all efflorescence liquid bliss
and making me a chalice
offered in all humility
to God’s eternity.
East Hampton, here I come,
bringing more greenness
to the grace that you are,
which now springs from me —
so I believe —
to beauty near and far.
