Bistrian’s String Is Snapped

Was it the ball? Was it the heavy air? Was it the pitching? Perhaps it was the pitching, as Jim Hansen of Uihlein’s and Rob Aldrich of Bistrian Gravel went head-to-head at the Terry King ball field in Amagansett Friday evening, by the end of which, thanks to Anthony Dragone’s two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning, Uilhein’s went joyously home a 5-4 winner.

Wildcats Licking Their Park City Wounds

The Wildcats, the local 14-and-under softball team that spent last week playing in the Triple Crown tournament in Park City, Utah, went 0-6, but took heart in the fact that three of those losses had come at the hands of teams in their pool, one of which, the Loveland Rage from Colorado, went on to win the 51-team tourney while the other two advanced to the quarterfinal round in bracket play.

The opening day of the Bridgehampton Polo Club’s season drew a huge crowd to the V.I.P. tent, and had the spectators paid attention they would have at least caught a glimpse of Mariano Aguerre’s superlative performance on the pitch.
