Booze Burgled at Surf Lodge
(8/27/2008) Nearly $13,330 worth of alcohol was stolen from a storage room in the back of the Surf Lodge on Edgemere Road in Montauk between July 18 and Aug. 4.
Sal Monaco, the manager who called East Hampton Town police, said that 1,127 bottles of beer, liquor, and wine went missing sometime between two inventories. He reported that 236 bottles of Red Stripe and 193 bottles of Corona were taken, along with other beer. Among the stolen liquor were 93 bottles of Patron and 30 bottles of Ketel One. Nineteen bottles of Sancerre wine were also stolen, among other brands.
Salvatore S. Termini, another manager, told police he checks the inventory on Mondays. On July 21, he noticed some items missing, and that the back door was ajar. He did not report the incident, he said. On Aug. 4, he noticed that the door was ajar again, and that more items were gone.
Mr. Monaco told police he believes the door was forced open, but police found no signs of forced entry, a report said. He gave police a list of hotel guests who stayed at the Surf Lodge during the time of the theft. Detectives are investigating.
The following week, $3,700 worth of goods were stolen out of a car parked at the Surf Lodge. Fernando Cardoso of North Bay, Fla., called police on Friday at about 3:30 a.m. to report that a Garmin global positioning system device, a Cobra radar detector, and a bag of designer fitness clothes had been stolen.
Although Mr. Cardoso’s 2003 Ford pickup truck was locked, the passenger-side window was partially open, police said.
