Bring in the Cavalry
At long last, the East Hampton Town Board is planning to hire a financial officer and a certified public accountant to help straighten out the chaos in the budget office. Of course, the town was supposed to have professionals of this kind aboard all along.

High Season, High Traffic
This was supposed to be a slow year for driving, what with the cost of gas spiking to almost $5 for regular out here. But perhaps the end times for affordable fuel have prompted people to take to the roads with a vengeance. How else can we explain the sudden and shocking masses of traffic?

Cures for the Shore
From the start, the challenges for the authors of the Army Corps of Engineers study of the ocean beaches from Fire Island to Montauk were daunting. For example, they were asked to consider the risks to human life and property, while at the same time being cognizant of the marine ecosystem and coastal biodiversity. That would be tall task enough, but the authors have had to consider all of the above over a region that spans 83 miles and includes its entire Atlantic Ocean shoreline and back-bay waterfront.
