Re: Have Your Say. What Did This Election Mean to You?

I am ecstatic at both the high turnout as well as the results of this election.

I am a Republican who voted for Tim Bishop. I hope Mr. Bishop will take into account the interest of his constituents first before following what could be a liberal-progressive agenda in Washington. Although I did not vote for Obama, I am excited that our nation has officially put behind its ugly past by electing an African American to our highest office. The campaign is over and it is now time to unite as a nation and move beyond politics as usual. Obama will have my full respect as leader of our great country. I also reserve the right as an American to respectfully disagree with aspects of his agenda. Should he govern from the center and rebuke his party when needed, I will gladly support him in 4 years. If he falls victim to traditional Democratic tendencies of overreaching and losing site of what is best for all, I will not support him.

Amen and may God bless our new President

John McCain, in probably his last political dogfight over America, was shot down on November 4, 2008, by Barack Obama. Like the Tuskegee Airmen that protected American bombers during WWII, Barack Obama eliminated the McCain/Bush threat of more corporate tax breaks, diminished government protections, the taxing of employer health care benefits and the privatization of Social Security. Congratulations to America's new Top Gun Barack Obama, and to all those that joined his squadron. This is truly our finest moment as evidenced by world wide acclamation!

Re: Have Your Say. What Did This Election Mean to You?

It means we have elected a man who promises class warfare, pledges policies that will reduce employment and send more businesses overseas, and is committed to raising taxes like never before seen. The East End will suffer as there will be less disposable income. Why most people out here can't see that is only because they refuse to look. Hopefully he will prove inept enough not to do too much damage. But with strong majorities in both houses, and irresponsible demagogues leading each house... I am not optimistic.

And lest someone say he will fight against layoffs and offshoring... tell me how? And tell me why any company faced with drastic increases in taxes and regulation should stay here.

Sorry, sorry day. We have elected a socialist. VP Biden is a socialist too.

I'm conflicted. I can't decide if I want to see him to succeed and, in doing so, scare the crap out of those who voted for him. Or would it be better if he fails so that America can elect a candidate that does not hate America.

Re: Have Your Say. What Did This Election Mean to You?

The turnout was horrible! We did not have a candidate in the running that I agreed with totally. The bottom of my list was God/America/Freedom-hating Obama/Biden team.

People voted for him because they saw him as the 'savior' with so many promises. It will be much less that! By a long shot. We will slowly lose all of our Constitutional Rights. Many Americans do not even know what the Constitution says and how important it is to keep those rights. Americans still think that the quote "separation of church and state" is in the Constitution, when in actuality, it is in a letter that was written by Thomas Jefferson to another member. We need to hold on to what is written in that nation changing document. We are the only country with those rights and cannot allow the to be given away. With the current administration these rights will be dissolved. We will not have say over our own children. THEY will (think they) know what is right for our children, our lives, our health, whether we live or die, where we live and how much money we can have.

Now I know what drove the citizens to risk everything, even their lives, in the Revolution...
