In the Spirit Around Montauk

At St. Therese
A family Christmas concert will be held at St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic Church on Sunday at 5 p.m. The adult and children’s choir will be singing holiday tunes, some solo. The audience will be invited to join a sing-along of traditional carols.

Christmas Eve services will be held at 4:30 p.m. and midnight at St. Therese, and in Spanish at 7 p.m. On Christmas Day, Masses will be celebrated at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m.

Santa's Last Stop
Before he heads back to the North Pole to check on his elves, Santa will make one more stop in the hamlet — at White’s Drug and Department Store on Sunday from 1 to 4 p.m. If you sign a receipt for one or more purchases, your name will be entered into the store’s holiday raffle, with a chance to win a wide-screen television, an eight-foot stocking filled with toys, and other prizes.

Also getting into the holiday spirit is Kailani on Main Street, offering a holiday boutique with sales of up to 50 percent off. A donation of nonperishable food for the Montauk Food Pantry will get you an extra 10 percent off.

A Movie and a Book
The Montauk Library’s free winter movie series will take a brief break for the holidays. “The Hundred-Foot Journey,” a film for the cook in all of us starring Helen Mirren, will resume the series on Jan. 7 at 7 p.m.

“Room” by Emma Donoghue is the next book up for discussion when the library’s reading group meets on Jan. 11 at 12:30 p.m.

Holiday Market at Outeast Gallery
The holiday market at the Outeast Gallery on Tuthill Road will be open through Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for last-minute shopping.

Christmas Pageant
At the Montauk Community Church, this year’s Christmas pageant will take place during 10 a.m. worship on Sunday. A candlelight service will be held on Christmas Eve at 5:30 p.m. There will be no Christmas Day service.

If you’re driving around this weekend you might want to check out the winners of the Montauk Chamber of Commerce’s Star Bright contest for business owners. J&P Pools won for brightest, Sunrise Guest House for best display, Candied Anchor for most inspirational, and Martha Greene Real Estate for its traditional theme. A special mention was bestowed upon Sammy’s restaurant.
