Town police received a report from Southampton Hospital in the early hours of Nov. 18 that a man had been struck with a belt hard enough to damage his eye to the point that he might lose vision in it.
The man, Carlos Cevarros, told police he and his friends had gone to an address on Lincoln Avenue in Springs to join a Bingo party, but were turned away at the door. Guillermo T. Pillco allegedly pulled off his belt and struck Mr. Cevarros with it after exchanging words about a woman in Mr. Cevarros’s party.
Police located Mr. Pillco and arrested him on Saturday morning on a charge of second-degree felony assault, which is leveled in a case where the accused intends to inflict severe injury using a weapon. Bail was set Sunday morning at $10,000, which Mr. Pillco posted.
