Breakwater, Belles This week, restaurateurs hope to take their first deep breath since orders started coming in on Memorial Day.The Breakwater Cafe at the Montauk Manor continues to serve dinner nightly, except Tuesday, from 5 to 10 p.m., with a prix fixe offered between 5 and 6:30 p.m.
Belles East in Southampton will begin lunch service this week, from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. from Wednesday through Sunday. Two-for-one specials will mark the "grand opening" week. Belles, on Elm Street, is a "Southern-style steak house." Dinner is served Wednesday through Sunday and specials include a three-course meal and performances by comedians on Wednesday, for $49.95, two-for-one steak night on Thursday, and a $15 deal on ultra-thin-crust pizza with salad and a glass of wine or draft beer on Sunday.
Sushi or Bison Looking for sushi? The I.G.A. grocery stores in Montauk and in East Hampton both have it, packed up and ready to go for a daytime picnic, or an early dinner outdoors.Bison burgers and sausage made from the meat of animals raised at the North Quarter Farm in Riverhead are being sold at Tweeds restaurant, also in the county seat. Ground bison and Italian-style sweet sausage and breakfast sausage, all frozen, are available.
Cooking Classes Those not handy with a knife might want to attend a class in knife skills today at the Loaves and Fishes Cookshop in Bridgehampton. The class, led by Mark Sanne, will meet from noon to 2:30 p.m., and the cost is $100."Dinner in Sicily," another Cookshop-sponsored class, will be presented by Michael Vignapiano tomorrow night from 6 to 8:30. The menu will include Sicilian-style seafood and other regional delicacies. Admission is $85.
A free demonstration in the Main Street store on Saturday from noon to 2:30 p.m. will focus on chocolate honey snaps. Jeanne Cuddy-Peretz will teach students how to make other "classic cookies" in a class next Thursday from noon to 2:30 p.m. The cost is $85.
On Friday, Sept. 17, Mr. Sanne will present "Dinner in Shanghai." Participants can learn how to make, and will eat, Shanghai soup dumplings, red prawns with green vegetables, Shanghai noodles with Chinese sausage, and chicken and cashews. The class costs $100.
