Other State Races

Also on the state level are the races for Comptroller and Attorney General. H. Carl McCall, the incumbent Democratic Comptroller, has been responsible and effective in office and should be re-elected. Dennis C. Vacco, the incumbent Attorney General, a Republican, uses the office for self-promotion, with a relentless and self-congratulatory stream of press releases and Website chatter. Mr. Vacco also is one of those "tough on crime" guys and a strong death penalty supporter.

Eliot Spitzer, Mr. Vacco's opponent, a former Manhattan prosecutor who had a lot of experience with corruption and organized crime, promises to make civil rights cases and General Electric's responsibility for contaminating the Hudson major issues. We'd give him a try.
